'Tag-a-map' belongs to a new generation of social software applications, drawing on the value of community participation, user generated content and geographical tools.
We produced software that enabled users to map Flickr photographs to geographic locations using a Google Maps interface. The placemarks could be annotated, and the comments and geotags saved back to the Flickr database.
The project has been used in a variety of contexts. Its first outing enabled community members to voice opinions and concerns about the local environment.
