BBC Blast inspires and supports creativity in 13 to 19 year olds through online resources and tools as well as offline tours with the Blast truck. It helps young people to develop skills that enable them to turn their creative ideas into a reality.
Blast was one of the first adopters of Web 2.0 functionality at the BBC with its User Generated Content (UGC) Showcases, rating system and comments.
We have been working with the BBC Blast team since 2005 when we were asked to design and build the micro-site for Milo's “Gameplan Competition”. Following on from this, Zupa have been regularly involved with the Blast website.
When the site was re-branded in 2006, we re-designed the Showcases following the new style guide and advised on the design of the Single Sign On (SSO) area of the site. Jasia also spent a couple of months at Blast HQ as Producer for a research and development project. The main task was to connect internal BBC teams with the external production team who were based in Manchester. It meant opening up discussions with many BBC departments such as Editorial Policy, Mobile, DNA, SSO and Research.
More recently we were asked to illustrate some step-by-step downloadable worksheets for craft projects. We also designed some widget interfaces that were then used in group user testing sessions.
